Whining for Countertops and Sinks!

Tunas Green

Seaweed Green
Kitchen

Okay Folks,

We've been living without sinks in our house for a couple of weeks. I'm sure you'll think I'm a wimp for whining, but we stared back to work (after a much needed relaxing summer vacation) the same week as ALL of the countertops and sinks came out of the house. It's been hard (said in a sniveling whining voice)! We're almost done with this short sacrifice and I'm posting the pictures of our newly cut granite slab countertops. They are so beautiful. The kitchen countertops are called seaweed green and the bathrooms (all three) are called tunas green.

It is funny how little green there really is in either granite slab. They are more black and brown speckled than anything else. And, they are so beautiful. I can't wait until Thursday this week! They'll be in and we can go back to cooking, washing things, and using our new faucets and counters. Oh yeah, we got new faucets to match the rest of our house hardware. They are all oil rubbed bronze, but that's for another posting.

Will (quieting down near Thursday)

Jake Gyllenhaal Accepts Award for Best Kiss!

Pretty amazing in such bleak political times! My theory is that when politics turn so far one direction and nearest the boiling point of intoloerance, the masses make the pendulum swing harder toward the other side.

I love the acceptance that Brokback Mountain has received in the mass media and images world. One fun moment in time...below is the video of Jake Gyllenhaal accepting the award for "Best Kiss" at The MTV Movie Awards 2006.

Gardening over Vacation pt. 1

I've been off from work getting ready to teach summer school. While there is a lot of stress happening in my department on campus over budget constraints and lack of resources, I've been off happily gardening. It seems to relieve my anxiety about the emails which keep pouring in no matter how hard I try not to look!

Here are some samples of what I'm in process creating. Steven and I built the back stairs which lead to a 5 foot right away. This area was always filling with weeds and such, so I decided to put in a pathway and a little planter bed. Take a look...and have a great summer!

Making Your Own USB Battery Charger

Go figure: An Altoid box and batteries makes for a USB charger. Do you own an ipod, digital camera, cell phone or other device with a rechargeable battery? Can you charge it up with a USB cable? Well, now you can make your own charger. Take a look at these instructions for making your own handy-dandy charger...www.instructables.com/

Have fun out there you technophiles! As for me, I'll probably stick with my car and home electric chargers for this work. It could come in handy when out camping, I suppose?

My New Nokia N80 Coming Soon!

I've been patiently waiting the Nokia N80 phone since I first learned about it back in October 2005! So far, what I hear about this puppy is that it will do everything except cook an apple pie.

The Nokia N80 has built in wifi (wireless g); a good web browser interface with a zoom feature; mini sd slot for adding memory and holding more music, videos, and files; music and movies can be played back in realplayer; you can take 3.0 megapixel still images or create a video of your own; oh yeah, and of course you can call people on this cell phone! There are so many features I can't name them all.

I'm very excited and I plan to buy this phone from mobilebee.com once it comes available. I've never done any business with mobilebee, but I think that their website rocks for choosing cell phones and plans! They have good reviews about their business, too.

I hope to be calling my friends and family on a new cell phone soon! Oh, and T-Mobile is my preferred choice in companies. I'm currently with Cingular but will be leaving them soon...catch you on voicemail!

F & B Farms and Nursery

My mother used to live in Salem, Oregon and we would travel up the freeway about 15 minutes to nursery farms and fruit stands in the spring and summer. Now that we all live around the Portland area, we've been looking for great places to shop for our gardens. While we've had some great luck and I've got some favorite nursery farms around the greater Portland area, we decided to take a trip back to our old stomping grounds.

F & B Farms and Nursery was a great surprise to us as we drove the back roads down toward Salem from West Linn. Just south of Woodburn, Oregon, we came upon this amazing nursery that my mom suggested we see. It has the most incredibly beautiful hanging potted plants and we bought 3! Oh, did I mention that they are a great bargain, too? I love to come across such finds as this fun and friendly nursery.

Oh wait, this isn't my diary!

Well, I've finally gone and lost my mind! I'm now blogging so we'll see what sort of site this turns into for my creative amusement. If you've stumbled across this by accident or came looking for me, I hope you will enjoy this little window into my life's experiences. I may be in here and then again, I may not. Let's see what meaning we can make out of this cyber space, shall we?
